Sam has over ten years' experience as a researcher, author, and consultant on global security challenges, with specialist expertise in digital infrastructure resilience, maritime security, and Indo-Pacific strategy. He leads two major Australian Government-funded research projects on submarine cable security and resilience in the Indo-Pacific.
His work has appeared in leading academic journals including the European Journal of International Security and the International History Review, and in international media including Reuters, the BBC, ABC Australia, Al Jazeera, and The Guardian. He offers research and advisory consultancy services, and welcomes enquiries for speaking engagements, media commentary, and postgraduate supervision in defence, national security, and foreign policy.
